Utah Trip

Two weeks ago my family and Dirk and I headed to Utah to visit my sister and surprise her for her birthday! After 26+ hours we finally made it to Utah. It was a long trip but the end result was great! Annie was so surprised and so happy! Here are some fun pictures from the trip.

Snow. Yes it snowed, it was cold! This was on the way there.

Our first day there we went to Bridal veil falls. It was cold but really pretty. This is Dirk and I in front of part of the falls!

After the falls we headed to Cornbellys. They have fun fall things to do. This was a jumping pillow that we all had fun on!

This is the Beast! You can walk through him and see his intestines. He gets haunted at night.

The trip was fun. The ride home was LONG! It was totally worth it though because Annie loved it!

Artprize 2011

This past weekend Dirk and I went to Artprize in Grand Rapids.

There were lots of cool things to see and lots of fun Art. Here are just of few of our favorites.

These are a bunch of glass hands and each one represents a bed in the Devos Childrens Hospital. The story behind it was really neat.

I have no idea what this one was but it was shiny and looked cool.

The monkeys hanging on the blue bridge were probably my favorite!

This is a real life Tonka truck that you could drive around. It was made out of a Jeep!

This one was called Glitter girls, She was made out of over 50,000 sequins held on by pins
This is a sand art piece that he changed everyday! This was the second days piece.
The wooden bears in the fountain were cool. One has a wooden fish in his mouth.

Artprize was a lot of fun. We only saw about a quarter of what they had. They have so much to see and do at Artprize.

Josh visits D.C.

When Dirk and I were in Virginia this summer Josh came to visit for a long weekend.

We went to D.C. to see all the fun things and we also went to see a nationals games. Here are some pictures from Josh's trip to D.C.

Apple Picking

It's Apple picking season! I love fall and i especially love Apple picking!

Dirk and I have gone apple picking almost every year since we started dating and it has always been one of our favorite things to do.

This year we had Josh and Casey with us and had tons of fun picking apples.

Ya finally another update..

So this past summer and this fall i have been doing a TON of baking! Dirks work and our family have been enjoying a lot of it but i thought i would share some pictures of what i have been baking.

And finally Homemade Pumpkin Puree, I made this today, it started with a pie pumpkin, went into the oven and this is the end result. No more canned pumpkin in this house. With this dirk has requested that i make Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting! So those are up tomorrow! More updates soon!

Finally an update!!! I am so bad at this blogging thing!

So 2 weeks ago Dirk and I arrived in Virginia for the summer! We are living with some great people and so far having a great time. Virginia is beautiful and so far i am loving it much more then Maryland. We have been keeping busy and finding bunches of new things to do.

Our first weekend here Dirk and I went Strawberry picking, this was our first time strawberry picking, it was super fun!

On the 28th Dirk and I headed to Great Falls National Park, we hiked on a river trail that was about 5 miles long. It was so hot out that day, but so much fun. This is Dirk on a rock.

So that is what we have been up to so far in Virginia. We are coming home (back to Holland) this weekend for Josh's graduation. We are super excited to see our families. I promise to get better at updating so everyone can see what we are doing while we are in Virginia! :)

Notre Dame VS. Utah

Dirk, Josh and I went to the Notre Dame VS. Utah game this past weekend and it was great! We all had so much fun even though it rained the first half of the game.

Okay so its been over a month since my last update, so i guess i better update everyone with what is going on with our lives down here in Indiana.

Um...

Dirk has started his 2nd year of Grad School. He is doing great and is working on some really cool projects.

I am working on my cupcake stuff and trying to get that up and running before Christmas. Also doing lots of cooking and baking.

This weekend Josh is coming down to visit us and we are all headed to our first Notre Dame Football Game. Should be tons of fun! Pictures after this weekend(PROMISE!)

I think that is all that is new down here in Indiana! Another update after the game!

Yes i am finally updating!

July has been a VERY busy month here in Maryland for Dirk and I. It started with me traveling back to Michigan because Dirk was supposed to be going on a business trip, well his dates for that trip got changed last minute but I still went home. After a week in Michigan i came home and we spent the 4th of July in Washington. It was amazing...and HOT!!!! The following weekend Dirk's Mom and Step Dad came to visit us and spent the weekend with us. That Sunday i went back to Michigan with them and Dirk finally went on his trip to New Mexico. We are both back in Maryland now and we are counting down the days till we get to go back home for good. 24 Days and we are heading home! I CANT WAIT!

Here are some pictures of what we have been up to!

So that has been out July! We have 3 weekends left here and still so much to see and do. Next up, The Spy Museum, The Holocaust Museum, Georgetown, and Baltimore one last time.

Baltimore Aquarium!

Yesterday Dirk and i decided to Head to Baltimore to go to the Aquarium. They had a new exhibit that i really wanted to see all about Jelly Fish!

Just a couple pictures of the fun Jellyfish! They were so fun to watch!

Me in my 3-D glasses. We went and saw a 4-D movie. It was planet earth pole to pole. It snowed in the theater, and we got sprayed with bubbles and poked in the back by our chairs. There were also bubbles and lots of wind!
This was the octopus that was playing in one of the tanks.
The guy with the stick would wave it above the water of the tank and the fish would spit water at it because they think it is a bug and that is how they catch there food. They were called Archer Fish i think. If you youtube them you can find a video of them spitting.
This was at the dolphin show, obviously its a dolphin...LOL! :)

This is a pirate ship that we saw in the harbor. It has cannons that shoot water and other fun things. We didn't go on it but if you want to ride they dress you up like pirates and they take you all along the harbor and you get to shoot the water cannons at anyone who comes to close :) Sounds like a good time to me!

Dirk and I have had lots of fun at the Aquarium and are planning at least one more trip back to Baltimore to go to a couple cupcake shops (of course) and to maybe take a speedboat ride around the harbor. Next weekend ...Washington D.C.!

Maryland and other randomness

So we have arrived in Maryland! (Okay we arrived a week ago and i am just really behind in posting!)

We had a busy couple of weeks leading up to leaving for Maryland. Dirk had his finals for his first year of Grad school and Did great!!! His core classes to get into the program are done and now he moves on to the harder classes and more research to figure out his Thesis!

The week before we left i was in the Hospital for five days with pancreatitis and Gall Bladder issues. All is good now though and they removed my Gall Bladder! Thank you to all my family and Dirks family who came to visit and sent flowers and cards. I appreciate you thinking about me.

We left for Maryland Last week Tuesday and arrived here last week Wednesday. Maryland is okay...I miss home A LOT though!

Dirk started his first day of work this past Monday and so far he is loving it! We are planning some fun things while we are here and planning on visiting a lot of fun places! This weekend we are headed to Baltimore to check out some Farmers Markets and the Aquarium and Charm City Cakes! Im super excited for that!

It's official, Dirk and I are headed to Maryland for the summer!

Dirk got the internship that he applied for and so our next 2 summers are going to be spent in Maryland.

We found a place in someones finished basement and it's really nice. We are excited to experience this new opportunity and to experience everything that Maryland and Washington D.C. have to offer!

This weekend Dirk and i decided to spend some of our tax money on some fun things for the apartment and for ourselves!

The first thing we bought was a Wii Fit! We love it, its so much fun!

The second thing we bought was an ultimate sack. It's like a giant bean bag but its made out of foam and its sooo comfy!

This is basically how it came in the mail except in a cardboard box.

Fun @ the Beach!

Today Dirk and I and the family all decided that it would be fun to show Mackenzee and Logan how different the beach looks in the winter. We went sledding on the big icebergs and did lots of climbing!Sledding down one of the Icebergs on the Lake at the State Park

Randomness and Lasagna!

Dirk and I have decided to do a little organizing around the apartment and the area we decided to start with was the spot right by our door. We were sick of the way the shoes looked and how messy it was when you first walked in. This was our solution.

This holds a paper shredder and a little basket to hold our mail.

Snowball Fights and a Christmas Tree!

Last weekend Dirk and I decided to head back to Holland for the weekend. Friday night my parents headed to the airport to pick up my grandma who flew in from Arizona to spend Christmas with us. We all decided to meet up at Olive Garden for dinner.

Saturday was spent hanging out at home with the whole family (minus Annie and Jimmy..sad) We watched some Christmas movies and the kids played with Papa Mike! They love to wrestle and sit on him!

Sunday we went to get my parents Christmas tree! Kenzee and Logan discovered the fun of snowball fights. So instead of looking at trees they spent there time hitting Dirk and Papa Mike and Eric with Snowballs!

Downtown Fun

This past weekend Dirk and I decided that it would be fun to take Kenzee and Logan to the Christmas Market and downtown for some shopping, Dirks mom joined us too! We didn't do much shopping but it was fun to spend time with the kids!

If you havent been to the Holland Christmas market you need to go! Dirk and I bought a cute little Christmas tree and the kids helped pick it out. Logan and Dirk decided to name it Henry!

After walking around the Christmas market for a while Kenzee and Logan started to get bored so we headed downtown. Kenzee for some reason wanted to see a statue, Logan wasnt to sure about that. Dirk and i brought them to the statue next to Sandcastle of the little girl singing. They were both a little scared at first but after that they had fun!

We headed to the the Sandcastle toy shop where the kids had fun looking around at all the toys and playing with the train set!

After the toy store it was off to the candy store so that the kids could get some treats! I think they had more fun outside the candy store playing with the squirrels but that's okay!

We had a great day spending time with the kids and can't wait till we are home for Christmas to spend more time with them! :)

Thansgiving!

WOW! I need to update more often! I'm a horrible blogger! :) I promise to update more, or at least try!

So, Dirk and I went home for Thanksgiving. On Thursday we had Thanksgiving with my family and on Friday night we had Thanksgiving dinner with his family.

Fall Fun!

WOW! I can't believe its October already!

Dirk and I have been keeping busy and doing some fun fall things back in Michigan!

Two weekends ago Dirk and I were back in Michigan for our traditional Apple Picking Saturday. We have been going apple picking for 5 years now and we love it!

Our first stop in our apple picking adventure is ALWAYS the Dutch Famers Market in Pullman! Its a cute little building with Apples and gourds and cider and donuts and so much stuff! We bought some gourds and went on our way to our next stop CRANES!

After apple picking we went to a few more little markets and got some mini gourds and some doughnuts and apple cider for Dirks family and mine! Yum!

Saturday night we headed to Artprize in Grand Rapids! It was so fun!

Random Update!

So i haven't updated in forever so i thought now would be a good time since i don't work today!

Things here have been going great! Dirk has officially started his schooling at Notre Dame and is on his way to getting his PHD! He's keeping very busy with homework and being a TA for a class but is doing really well!

I am working at Notre Dame as well, i work in the North Dining Hall. Basically a lunch lady minus the hair net and serving the students food (there old enough to get there own!) Its been fun and hopefully i will be able to work my way into the kitchen there and start cooking instead of serving.

Since i haven't updated in a while here are some pictures of whats been going on since the last time i have updated!

Logan Had his 4th Birthday at our apartment! It was fun to have the whole family (well almost the whole family, ANNIE & JIMMY WE MISS YOU) there!

So, Dirk and I ended up going back to Holland AGAIN this weekend, but this time for a really GOOD reason! A friend of my dads found my rings in the lake! He was out in the Lake for 4 days looking for them and he found them! Dirk and I were so excited (okay mostly me) that we went home just a couple hours after we found out!

The Fair, The Beach and Game Night!

So last weekend Dirk and I headed back to Holland again (you would think we still live there.) The Fair was going on and we decided to go with Eric and Sara and the Kids and have some fun! Kenzee and Logan were chickens when it came to some rides, but other rides they loved. Logan loved the big slide and Mackenzee was a big fan of the Bumper cars!

So we had game night at my parents house Saturday night and played a four hour game of Phase 10, it was a long night of Cards and Snacks and Margaritas... This was Logan by the end of the night.

Went to the Beach on Sunday! Had tons of fun until i ended up losing my wedding ring and engagement ring in the lake, they still haven't been found so we are going to have to replace them but here are some fun pics!

Blueberries, McDonalds and Slab Pie OH MY!

This weekend Dirk and I went home (back to Holland) and took the kids blueberry picking. This is the 3rd year Dirk and I have brought Mackenzee blueberry picking and Logans 2nd year! They both seemed to have tons of fun! Dirk's Mom and brother Josh came along too!!!

Salsa, Bubbles and Empty Basements

This update is for my sister who keeps bugging me because i haven't updated in two weeks!

We have been home the last two weekends for family functions at home at so i have a lot of pictures of what has been going on in our lives!

These are pictures of my mom making homemade salsa, its so yummy, I'm trying to convince here to enter us in the salsa making contest at the farmers market this year!

Haven't updated in a while so i guess i will post on whats new in the life of Nichole and Dirk.

Dirk is working hard doing research everyday at Notre Dame, he likes it a lot and is making new friends. He is also working on setting up all of our electronics in our apartment and putting up all the pictures and art on the walls that i want!

I am still working on finding a job, My resume is out in the internet world and I'm hoping to find a job soon! We almost have the apartment completely together, we just need a couple more things and are apartment will feel like home!

This is the bookshelf that my parents bought us as a wedding gift, most of those books are Dirks. This one is in our bedroom!

This is the "Bookshelf" in our living room, Really we use it as a TV stand and to hold DVD's but its also one that my parents bought us!

This is Just a fun thing that Dirk and I saw Downtown Holland today when we were watching the street performers with my mom!

Flooding in Holland

So Dirk and I came home (back to Holland) for fathers day weekend. We came home Friday afternoon and decided to parade of homes with my parents. The second to last home we went to it started to downpour outside! We ended up heading toward home at about 9pm and by that time it had been raining about an hour!

When we arrived on our street it was flooded! It was hard to even attempt to get to our house. We ended up taking a side street to get home (not a good idea!) Well the car ended up getting stuck! The water was DEEP and it was flooding my moms car! Some nice man in a truck pushed us out and pushed us to our house! During all this it is still raining HARD CORE!

Friday night many cars got stuck in the water on our road. We ended up letting 2 random people leave there dead water logged cars in our driveway overnight.

All over Holland is flooded, roads have washed away and basements are a mess (our included!) Hopefully no more water comes, and Holland starts to dry out! These are pictures of what happened this weekend!This is Aniline! That water right there is where many cars got stuck the night before, and this is after it went down a lot!

This is part of our yard, and the neighbors and then it goes into Garfield! What a MESS! That is what ended up in our basement, and many other basements in the neighborhood. Lots of work ahead of a lot of people in Holland!

Furniture and Blinds and Such

So Dirk and I have been busy moving into our new place and unpacking boxes and getting furniture and such. Here are a few pics that we have taken this past week and what we have been up to

Dirk put blinds in up in our apartment this weekend, he did a really good job and they look
great!

This is Dirk building our new kitchen table and chairs that we bought on Sunday when his mom and brother came to visit! Dirk also put my sign up in our kitchen! This is my favorite sign ever!

Dirk and I stayed Home Saturday night, i made panini's and salad and then we made marshmallows over the stove!

Unpacking and Moving

Dirk and I have moved to Indiana, and so i have decided to start a blog so that our family and friends can keep up with our lives and what we are doing.

WARNING! OUR APARTMENT IS A MESS!!!

Dirk and i moved on Sunday and everything was just put into our apartment and we had to leave again the next day. We unpacked a little on Sunday night ( really only the kitchen! My favorite place in the whole apartment!) and then we went back to Michigan Monday morning so that Dirk could finish his last two days at Best Buy.

Well we arrived back in Indiana Wednesday night and did a little more unpacking. Dirk left to start his new job today at Notre Dame and i am left home to unpack and clean house (not one of my strong points in life.)
